May 2011: Retirees File Lawsuit Against NV Energy for Slashing Healthcare Benefits

Retirees from NV Energy filed a class-action lawsuit against the company for unilaterally cutting their healthcare benefits. Many of the retirees had worked at NV Energy their whole careers, in some cases 40 years or more, and had been promised retiree health benefits as part of their compensation package. But despite the promises NV Energy made to retirees, beginning in 2011, the company froze healthcare benefits for retirees and has refused to negotiate with retirees over the issue. With the help of their union, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1245, the retirees have launched a campaign against the company for its actions.
